Monterey Peninsula Art Forum

Teresa Brown

PictureFirst Tracks, watercolor, 25x22 (framed)
Teresa Brown is a native of California. Although she has lived and visited many places, she has spent most of her life on the Monterey Peninsula enjoying, interpreting and painting the vast, abundant beauty the peninsula offers. She began painting to express her creative nature while pursuing a career in business management. While engaged in her business career, for a time, she also owned and operated a fine art gallery in Half Moon Bay, California where she successfully represented original art of more than 20 emerging, regional artists. Her entrepreneurial spirit has now shifted to her own original works in watercolor.

A camera is always handy as Teresa moves about the Monterey Peninsula to capture images that are later taken to the studio to use as a reference for creating her next painting. She will focus on the unique drama of a single flower, or the wonderful chaos of seashells perfectly arranged on the beach by nature. Her style has been described as “Georgia O’Keefe with an Asian flair." The final product is something that Teresa hopes will give one a moment to pause and reflect, but mostly to enjoy.

“I like experiencing the perfect accidents that watercolors so often present. When I start a painting, I don’t really know exactly what the result will be, trying to control the water becomes less important. Giving in to the medium leads to an adventure that often results in exciting outcomes.” Teresa’s watercolors are unique and dramatic expressions of nature
ranging from landscapes to distinctive floral interpretations to photo realism. Teresa has studied watercolors with Jennifer Almodova of San Francisco’s Academy of Art and shown her works in several venues in the San Francisco bay area as well as the Monterey Peninsula including, Beau de Soliel in Pacific Grove, The Haute Enchilada in Moss Landing and The Reflections Elegante Fine Art Gallery in Monterey.
