Monterey Peninsula Art Foundation

George Saldivar

George Saldivar learned to sculpt from Ray Sells, an inspirational teacher at Skyline Community College, San Bruno in the 1970s. George continued to work with wood and stone while at San Francisco State.

A technical career at AT&T in the Bay Area largely kept him from pursuing his art, but retirement has set him free to work on his sculptures every day.

Currently, George is exploring found wood; oak, laurel, applewood and walnut. His sculptures present organic curves, which can sometimes be interpreted as female forms. He often highlights vibrantly-colored stained glass scenes by placing them into sculpted wooden bases. Sometimes he employs an electrically-induced fractal burn called the Lechtenberg effect to enervate his designs.

Visit the MPAF Gallery at 568 Lighthouse, Pacific Grove, CA to view more of his sculptures.

Look for him at next year’s Seaside Artist Association Tour, which offers an opportunity to tour local artists’ workspaces. Visit the Seaside Artist Association group page in Facebook for updated information on next year’s Tour.
