Like many artists, I am a dreamer…I lose myself in visions of the beautiful central coast and the profound energy in nature. I paint from my heart and put it out to the world for judgment. It’s a sometimes challenging life that only artists can truly understand. Yet when I paint, I am unaware of all that. I close my eyes and ask for guidance and use bold colors and strokes to push away fear. My process is quite unique as I use only my hands to spread my paint so I can truly escape to the moment and connect with my work. Although my strokes are raw and fervorous, my understanding of design comes through as I consider each layer, stepping back to view the whole work before adding another.
Painting on reclaimed wood not only eases my concerns about landfill and waste but also brings unique, natural depth and motion to my works. I hearken on inspiration from the sky, the ocean, the mountains, the canyons that surround Monterey, and I allow it to flood into my vision. I can see the colors in their simplest shapes and strive to reflect their energy so that when you view one of my works, you can feel it as much as you can see it–like a daydream, a whisper, or reflection.
